BYD Pauses Mexico Factory Plans Awaiting US Election Outcome: A Strategic Move in Global Expansion
BYD from China puts a hold on its Mexican factory plans until the conclusion of the US elections. Mexico has the potential to be an essential manufacturing hub for BYD, complementing its existing or developing facilities in Brazil, Hungary, Turkey, and Thailand.
BYD had been considering three potential sites in Mexico for an auto manufacturing plant, however, they have currently paused their search, according to several unnamed sources who wished to remain anonymous while sharing this confidential information.
The delay is primarily due to BYD's decision to hold off until the results of the contest between former US President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris in early November are known, according to sources. They also noted that BYD's on-hold manufacturing plans might still be resumed or possibly modified, with no definitive decision made yet.
BYD conveyed to Bloomberg through a statement that it "has not delayed a verdict on a manufacturing plant in Mexico".
"Efforts persist in establishing a factory with top-tier technology specifically for the Mexican market, not intended for the U.S. market or for exports," the firm mentioned in a statement credited to Executive Vice President Stella Li. "For BYD, the Mexican market holds significant importance."
