Brivio Confirms Zeelenberg’s 2024 Exit from Trackhouse Aprilia at Aragon MotoGP
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia at the conclusion of the 2024 season. The confirmation came during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from the team after the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team when it was first known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project after its second season with the Noale brand, now operating under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with Simon Crafar, a pit lane reporter for MotoGP.com, ahead of the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who began his tenure at Trackhouse in early 2024, shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very hard” decision. He noted that this move is part of the American-owned team's effort to explore “some different direction”.
"We talked about Zeelenberg leaving," Brivio stated. "This was a decision we made together. Wilco deserves a lot of praise for his contributions."
To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has developed over the years. Moreover, most of the team will remain the same next year, so he deserves a lot of recognition for what he has accomplished.
“As Trackhouse, we considered that it might be necessary to explore a different path moving forward. While it’s unfortunate in some respects, it’s also a business decision.”
"This has been a challenging situation, and reaching this decision was extremely tough."
The future plans for Zeelenberg remain uncertain at this time. Zeelenberg, a previous winner in the 250cc Grand Prix class, served as a team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to a managerial role with the Petronas SRT team.
