Braking Breakthrough Propels di Giannantonio to Top Jerez Test Time, Eyes Success at Le Mans

Improvements in braking elevate Di Giannantonio to the quickest lap, believes he has the potential to excel at Le Mans

Fabio di Giannantonio tops the charts at the Jerez MotoGP testing, and with the advancements in braking performance, he feels he could emerge as a leading contender at Le Mans.

Following his teammate Marco Bezzecchi's achievement of securing VR46's inaugural MotoGP podium finish of the year, Fabio di Giannantonio soared to the forefront during the Jerez test sessions, posting the fastest time.

For the majority of the day, di Giannantonio led the timesheets thanks to a lap of 1 minute and 36.405 seconds achieved on his 23rd out of 70 attempts.

After making progress in braking and entering corners with the GP23, the previous year's victor of the Qatar race believes he has what it takes to compete with the leading contenders in the upcoming Le Mans event.

"Di Giannantonio expressed that people always seem astonished by his speed, referring to the response to his performance during the Jerez test."

"I believe we're in a strong position, with an excellent team and today we've done an amazing job. Ducati has also provided us with some updates. Therefore, it was crucial to experiment with various things, and we've managed to maintain a quick pace."

"I consistently strive to enhance my riding technique, and alongside that, we've noticed a slight deficiency in halting power, particularly during the final phase of braking, as the GP23 exerts significant pressure on the front."

"Finding the optimal path, especially to set up properly for the exit of the [corner], has been challenging. However, we've made progress in this aspect today, which is truly beneficial."

"Heading into Le Mans, we're carrying a lot of positive momentum. By validating the strong points observed during this test, I believe we have the potential to be among the frontrunners."

The Italian believes his performance this season, with a best finish of sixth place, does not match the pace he's demonstrated at various times throughout the weekends. However, his current tally of 34 points is twice what he had accumulated by this time last year.

"Di Giannantonio mentioned that there were some problems, but they didn't concern the setup."

"I believe we've shown good speed, to be honest. I'm pleased with how I've">kicked off the season. Additionally, this weekend in Jerez, we've maintained a decent pace. It's just that at the beginning of the race, the initial 2-3 laps were challenging for me due to some issues with the rear tyre."

At Le Mans, di Giannantonio and Bezzecchi will face the initial hurdle of aiming to secure the season's inaugural Sprint race points for VR46.
