Brad Binder’s Sprint from Last to 15th: A Tale of Triumph and Tribulation at the French MotoGP

Brad Binder's Uphill Battle: From the Back to 15th Position: “It was tough to find my rhythm,” says Binder.

Starting from the rear in the French MotoGP Sprint, Brad Binder managed to move up eight positions initially but then faced difficulties.

Brad Binder faced another setback during his difficult French MotoGP weekend on Saturday. Following three crashes on Friday, the KTM factory rider found himself at the bottom of the grid due to a mechanical problem and yellow flags during the qualifying round.

The pinnacle moment for the South African occurred when he soared from 22nd position to 14th at the start of the race.

However, it was a short-lived break.

Binder's advancement was suddenly interrupted due to signs of excessive pressure in the front tire, particularly locking, which led him to veer off course.

Eager to prevent further crashes and secure some points for Sunday, the rider of bike #33 piloted his RC16 across the finish line in 15th position.

"Following a promising beginning, I simply struggled to find my rhythm in the Sprint," Binder confessed. "I committed several errors and experienced considerable issues with the front 'locking'."

"At one moment, I deviated from the path. It proved to be challenging."

Gathering information for tomorrow was essential because I felt fantastic on Friday but then repeatedly faltered. It was imperative to avoid repeating that mistake today.

"We've discovered something that provides a solid concept for the competition. I'm searching for small details because even minor variations can have a significant impact right now."

Francesco Guidotti, the team manager for Red Bull KTM, clarified: "During Q1, Brad encountered a technical problem. It wasn't a breakdown or a defect, but something wasn't functioning properly, leading him to opt for his second bike, where he then faced numerous yellow flags.

"Beginning from his initial position implied our hopes weren't high. The pressure in the front tire was skyrocketing, preventing him from riding as he desired."

"Jack and I gathered a few insights from the Sprint, and we'll find out more tomorrow as it seems like there might be rain."

Jack Miller, a member of the team, secured points for finishing in eighth position, as he was the sole competitor to opt for a soft front tyre instead of the more common hard variant.

"The Australian acknowledged getting off to a strong start, though he admitted to being overly cautious going into Turn 3, leading to a hitch," he explained, still managing to secure the sixth position initially. "Overall, the motorcycle performed fairly well, yet it took a while for the rear tyre's temperature to stabilize, affecting its performance for the next five to six laps."

"The competitors were able to begin speeding up sooner after the turns, so we're going to examine that for the next day, but the bike's front end was performing excellently. We have some data to review this evening. Now, it's a matter of watching what the weather does."

Binder and Miller have both proven to be experts in handling races under wet or mixed weather conditions.
