Brad Binder’s High-Speed Gamble: Crashing Out of First Versus Riding in 15th at Catalunya Sprint Race
Brad Binder remarked, "Crashing while leading is preferable to circulating in 15th position." Binder experienced another setback in Catalunya, taking a fall while leading the sprint race.
Following two crashes at the second turn on Friday, Brad Binder experienced a similar mishap, this time at the fifth turn, squandering a possible victory in the MotoGP sprint race.
Binder ascended to the front of the pack shortly after Raul Fernandez's crash, which occurred while he was leading, by surpassing Pedro Acosta.
Despite his high speeds throughout the weekend and past incidents, the KTM racer experienced his RC16's front end sliding out at the fifth turn.
After the race, Binder maintained a positive outlook despite experiencing his third crash in two days, saying, "The qualifying today went really well. I'm extremely pleased with securing the fourth position. It's always a bonus to be at the forefront right from the beginning."
The beginning went quite well, however, I encountered a problem when I reached the limiter in first gear and then was unable to shift the bike into second, yet it was an impressive start regardless. There was a minor hiccup along the way.
Besides that, all was excellent. I felt really positive during the race, the motorcycle performed admirably at this location, but regrettably, at turn five, I lost control as the front slid out.
"I received no prior notice. Perhaps I was slightly more aligned than the previous lap, and just like that, my race was over. That's just the way things turned out."
"Sure, it's disappointing to drop from the lead, but it's preferable to falling to 15th position like we experienced last week."
Unexpectedly, Binder acknowledged that his error occurred while he was exercising greater caution than usual.
The individual from South Africa explained, "My aim was to maintain a clean ride, and in hindsight, maybe that wasn't the best approach. I ended up reducing my usual level of aggressive braking, which unexpectedly shifted the weight distribution and caused me to lose grip on the front wheel."
Binder, who had been competing intensely against his KTM teammate Acosta for the majority of the race, found himself at the forefront of a MotoGP race once again, ready to challenge the Ducatis despite his earlier error.
In response to a question about where their bikes hold an edge over the Ducatis, Binder mentioned, "I believe there are several circuits where we possess benefits, possibly not as numerous as theirs, but this particular track significantly favors us."
"Right from the first practice session, every KTM bike showed impressive speed, and regardless of the adjustments we made to the setup, we consistently performed well."
"However, the major challenge is on the horizon. It will be interesting to see where we stand in the competition after it concludes."
