BMW to Introduce Model Upgrades in Summer of 2024
New powertrain options, enhanced charging route guidance, driving assistant enhancements, and additional updates are on the way…
BMW has only recently refreshed the 3 and 4 series with a new update, and now, come July 2024, further enhancements are slated. The X1, X2, 2 Series Active Tourer, X5, X6, and XM models are all set to receive modest upgrades and expansions.
The newly launched 5 Series Touring will also receive additional engine options. But let's start from the beginning:

BMW's 2 Series Active Tourer will be expanded to include a third diesel option, the 220d. This model features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine equipped with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, delivering 163 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. The electric motor, functioning as a belt-driven starter generator, is built into the 7-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission, providing an additional 20 horsepower.
In the X1, this engine is already operating with four-wheel drive. Starting in July 2024, it will also be available to order with front-wheel drive. The same engine and drive setup will then also be an option for the X2.
At this time of year, BMW exhibits a sense of humor as they enhance the features of their three "small" models, the 2 Series Active Tourer, X1, and X2, by adding a heated seat function for both the driver and passenger in their base models starting in July. Additionally, they're introducing a new optional extra: the "Parking Assistant Professional."
The three compact models now offer an optional innovation package which will include the "Driving Assistant." The additional features of the "Comfort Package" have been expanded to include active seats and an electric seat adjustment with memory function for both the driver and passenger. The M-Sport package for the X1 and X2 will now also feature an interior and exterior mirror package that projects a specific logo in the entry area. Additionally, the wireless charging telephony option will now also provide an illuminated smartphone tray for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.
The latest versions, BMW iDrive 8.5 and 9.0, are set to undergo comprehensive enhancements. The update will introduce more language options and revamp the display of voice commands. Moreover, the system will be equipped to recommend particular instructional videos. Additionally, new entertainment features, such as games to play during charging stops, will be included as an extra perk.
New Silent Mode feature for focused driving is now available for the 7 Series, iX, and 5 Series models in the "ConnectedDrive Store". So, no playing games! The X1, X2, and 2 Series Active Tourer equipped with 9.0 will get this feature as part of the "BMW Digital Premium" package.
The updated 8.5 version of the cloud-based navigation system now provides details on parking and rest areas along the planned route right from the route summary screen. Additionally, it displays charging stations complete with availability status for fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Customization options, filters, and the "My BMW App" have been refined and enhanced.
Starting in July 2024, BMW X5 and X6 models will come standard with the "Driving Assistant" feature, which includes lane change alert with active lane returning technology, rear cross-traffic alert with braking function, and exit warning. The existing standard lane departure warning system will now also respond to oncoming traffic. The "Driving Assistant Professional" will be included as part of the optional "Innovation Package".
The BMW XM introduces more options for customization. Now available are new 23-inch star-spoked alloy wheels in "Jetblack." The "Label Red" model can be adorned with nine extra exterior paint finishes, including "Isle of Man Green metallic," "Sao Paulo Yellow solid," and "Dravit Grey metallic." The "Merino" interior comes in two color choices.

BMW is expanding the engine options for the 5 Series Estate to include a plug-in hybrid and a straight-six diesel. The blend of the 530e, 8-speed Steptronic, four-wheel drive, and 299 horsepower is no longer exclusive to the Estate model. Starting this summer, the Sedan will also feature this combination, with an introductory price of 67,450 euros.
Starting this summer, another inline-six diesel engine will be available. The power unit from the BMW 540d is set to be paired with the previously mentioned 48-volt mild-hybrid technology. This setup will deliver a total system power of 303 horsepower and a peak torque of 670 Nm. Price-wise, the sedan will be available for 69,050 euros, while the touring model will come at 71,050 euros.
