BMW M3 (2024): Refresh for Sedan and Touring Models
The latest model year brings a slight increase in power
The BMW M3 is rightfully considered one of the most coveted sports cars in its class. The station wagon variant, the Touring, has particularly captured the hearts of many enthusiasts, regardless of the oversized front grille. Additionally, the M3 has gained attention amidst the controversy surrounding the Mercedes-AMG C 63. BMW has now subtly yet effectively updated its successful model in line with the regular 3 Series.
Performance is key when it comes to BMW's M series. The company has upped the ante by boosting the horsepower of the M3's all-wheel models by 20, bringing it to a total of 530 horsepower. It's hard to imagine anyone was left wanting more power before this upgrade. Meanwhile, the rear-wheel-drive version of the M3 Competition makes do with a still robust 510 horsepower.

The new all-wheel-drive sedan takes just 3.5 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h, while the Touring version, despite being heavier, takes only a fraction longer at 3.6 seconds. When accelerating from a standstill to 200 km/h, the power increase in both all-wheel-drive models is evident, shaving off 0.5 seconds with the sedan completing it in 11.8 seconds and the Touring in 12.4 seconds.
Exterior
BMW has kept the design changes minimal, retaining the large grille. The remodelled headlights are a new addition, combining the low and high beam lights into a single unit. Each headlight features two slightly arrow-shaped, vertical LED units that function as both the daytime running lights and turn signals. Below is a side-by-side comparison of the previous M3 model and the updated version, with the former on the left:
As an optional feature, customers can opt for adaptive LED headlights that come with a glare-free matrix high beam, which includes cornering and urban lighting functions. Blue inserts within the headlights indicate the presence of this advanced lighting technology.
Interior
Inside, subtle updates are also present. The M3 driver will handle a refreshed sports steering wheel, which for the first time features a flattened rim. Additionally, there's an option for a new M Alcantara steering wheel with the same design and functionalities available for the first time. For both versions of the steering wheel, a heating function can be added as an optional extra.
The standard ambient lighting now includes not only the footwells, storage compartment at the front of the center console, and the door handles, but also a contour lighting integrated into the trim of the central air vents. Additionally, a variety of interior trims and an enhanced Sensatec dashboard surface round out the updates.
Entertainment and Information System
The latest iteration of iDrive, grounded on the BMW Operating System 8.5, now comes integrated with the newly revamped BMW M3 Sedan and the BMW M3 Touring models. This state-of-the-art digital display network comprises a 12.3-inch Information Display and a 14.9-inch Control Display, which now includes displays specific to the M series.

The BMW Curved Display, which boasts high resolution and is angled towards the driver, alongside the advanced BMW Personal Assistant, are designed to facilitate interaction through touch control and natural language commands between the vehicle and the driver.
Meaning: Advancements in digital interfaces are leading to fewer buttons and knobs in vehicle dashboards. Whether this represents progress or a step back in terms of usability is up for debate. However, don't worry: the traditional rotary/push knob is still around (for now)!
Launch Date and Pricing
The updated BMW M3 is set to launch in July 2024, with starting prices in Germany at €94,200 for the M3 Sedan. The Competition Sedan is priced at €100,400. For the xDrive all-wheel version, the cost is €105,300, while the Touring, available exclusively as the Competition M xDrive, is priced at €106,300.
