Global Debut: BMW Unveils New Art Car for Le Mans
The 20th edition of BMW's Art Car for the 24-hour race is yet another masterpiece…
Art Cars are a longstanding tradition at BMW. For nearly half a century, the Munich-based company has been commissioning renowned artists to transform select racing cars into iconic pieces of art. This year, the globally acclaimed artist from New York, Julie Mehretu, was given the opportunity to reimagine the #20 BMW M Hybrid V8, set to compete in the Le Mans 24 Hours (FRA) on the 15th and 16th of June, turning it into a "performative painting" based on one of her artworks.
Drawing inspiration from her grandiose painting titled "Everywhen," she transformed the two-dimensional image concept into a three-dimensional form designed to encapsulate dynamism and motion. The abstract visual configuration of the Art Car was realized by superimposing digitally altered photographs with dot screens, neon-hued veils, and distinctive black markings. This intricately fashioned Art Car is intended to be more than just a piece of art; it's meant to symbolize the convergence of technology, design, and the world of racing.
