Binder’s Burnouts and Miller’s Misfortune: A Rollercoaster Weekend at Aragon MotoGP
Brad Binder exclaimed, "I did another rolling burnout!", while Jack Miller mentioned, "Rins got ahead of me." Brad Binder also shared, "I came up with a solid strategy last night to avoid losing traction at the start…"
Brad Binder achieved his best performance in a MotoGP weekend since the season opener in Qatar, securing 4th and 6th place finishes at Aragon.
Despite going off the track in both races, he managed to secure seventh place, which was on the better part of a messy grid.
Binder trailed rookie Pedro Acosta during the middle portions of the race, which turned into a fight for third place after Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta stayed just beyond their grasp.
Binder smiled as he shared his experience, saying, "Last night, I came up with a solid strategy to avoid spinning out at the start, and just like yesterday, I executed a rolling burnout!"
"I was able to navigate through the pack and overtake several riders. It was challenging to avoid errors as the front tire was overheating while trailing others until the final portion of the race."
“I attempted to gain time on corner exits since I couldn't enter them quickly due to the front tire overheating. However, this strategy backfired as the left side of the tire wore out completely by the end.
"I did everything I could to overtake Pedro, but there was no room left behind!"
"We made significant progress over the weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Jack Miller, a member of the team, had an impressive start, moving up from 15th position on the grid to 8th place by the conclusion of the first lap. However, it wasn't long before the Australian rider faced difficulties with rear tire traction.
Having lost ninth place to Alex Rins on the final lap, he subsequently received a 16-second penalty for tyre pressure violations, along with two other riders, which relegated him to 15th position after the race.
"A lengthy race," remarked Miller. "The track conditions changed once more; it was mostly dirty throughout the weekend but felt slipperier today."
"I gave it my all. It was really challenging to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I had a major highside incident as I exited the final turn."
"I found my pace and worked on maintaining it. There were several challenges moving from the tire's edge to its center… but I managed to finish."
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I had difficulty keeping up with the guys ahead of me. We'll continue to persevere."
"Thrilled to secure a top ten finish, but Rins just edged me out on the back straight during the final lap. I tried my best to be as accurate as possible, but I didn't get a good drive and he managed to surpass me down the back straight."
“We will return to Misano.”
This weekend, KTM will have five riders on the track, as test rider Pol Espargaro joins as a wild-card entry.
“Next, we’re heading to Misano, keeping the upcoming test in mind, along with Pol’s wildcard entry, which should provide us with some valuable insights for the future,” stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP race will commence with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, as Acosta currently ranks fifth in the world championship standings.
Miller, who might be officially announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider during the team's home races in Italy, is currently in 15th place, trailing Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo by three points.
