Binder’s Burnout Battle and Miller’s Rins Rivalry: Aragon MotoGP Recap
Brad Binder: "I ended up doing a rolling burnout again!"
Jack Miller: "Rins got ahead of me."
Brad Binder: "I had a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start…"
Brad Binder had his best MotoGP weekend since the season started in Qatar, finishing in 4th and 6th place at Aragon.
Even though he spun out at the start in both races, he still managed to secure seventh place, benefiting from the cleaner side of a messy grid.
Binder followed rookie Pedro Acosta during the middle portion of the race, and their contest turned into a fight for third place after Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained slightly beyond grasp.
Binder smiled and said, "I had a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start, and just like yesterday, I did a rolling burnout!"
"I navigated through and overtook several competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors since the front tire was overheating while following others until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time when exiting corners since I couldn't enter them quickly due to the front overheating. However, I eventually suffered because the left side of the tire wore out completely."
"I gave it my all to overtake Pedro, but there was no room left behind!"
"Aside from that, we made significant progress this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Jack Miller, a member of the team, had a powerful start, advancing from 15th position on the grid to 8th place by the conclusion of the first lap. However, the Australian quickly encountered issues with maintaining rear grip.
After being overtaken by Alex Rins on the final lap and losing the ninth position, he, along with two other riders, was penalized with a 16-second post-race penalty for tyre pressure issues, which resulted in him finishing in 15th place.
“It was a lengthy race,” remarked Miller. “The track conditions were different once more; it had been dirty for most of the weekend but felt more slippery today.
"I gave it my all. It was really challenging to manage the rear tyre, and I experienced a major highside incident while exiting the final corner."
"I found my groove and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges when transitioning from the outer part to the center of the tire, but I managed to finish successfully."
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I had a hard time keeping up with the guys ahead of me. We'll keep pushing forward."
"Thrilled to finish in the top ten, but Rins overtook me on the back straight during the final lap. I was trying to be as accurate as possible, but I had a poor acceleration, allowing him to pass me on the straight."
“We will return to Misano in the future.”
This weekend, KTM will have a total of five riders as test rider Pol Espargaro joins the team as a wild-card entry.
“Next, we are heading to Misano, keeping an eye on the subsequent test and Pol’s wildcard entry, which should provide valuable insights for our future,” stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP event will commence with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, who is currently in fifth place in the world championship standings.
Miller, potentially set to be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, currently holds 15th place and trails Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo by three points.
