Binder’s Burnout Battle and Miller’s Last-Lap Heartbreak: Aragon MotoGP Recap
Brad Binder exclaimed, “I did another rolling burnout!” Meanwhile, Jack Miller mentioned being overtaken by Rins. Binder also shared his intention from the previous night, saying, “I had devised a solid strategy to avoid spinning out at the start…”
Brad Binder had his best MotoGP weekend since the season kicked off in Qatar, achieving 4th and 6th place finishes at Aragon.
This occurred even though he veered off course in both races, with his seventh-place finish happening on the less cluttered section of a messy starting grid.
Binder was trailing rookie Pedro Acosta during the middle portion of the race. This competition turned into a fight for third place when Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained slightly beyond grasp.
"I came up with a solid strategy last night to avoid losing traction at the start, and I did another rolling burnout just like I did yesterday," Binder said with a smile.
"I maneuvered carefully and overtook several competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors since the front tire was overheating when following others, especially until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time when exiting corners since entering them quickly was difficult due to the front tire overheating. However, this strategy backfired as the left side of the tire wore out completely by the end."
"I gave it my all to overtake Pedro, but I had no power left from behind!"
"Besides that, we took some very encouraging steps this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Starting from 15th position, team member Jack Miller made an impressive beginning, advancing to eighth place by the conclusion of the first lap. However, it wasn't long before the Australian rider encountered difficulties with rear tire traction.
After being overtaken by Alex Rins for ninth place in the final lap, he, along with two other riders, was penalized with a 16-second post-race penalty for tyre pressure issues, which relegated him to 15th position.
“It was a long race,” Miller stated. “The track conditions varied once more; it had been dirty for most of the weekend but felt more slippery today.”
"I gave it my all. Managing the [medium] rear tire was challenging, and I experienced a significant highside incident while exiting the final corner."
"I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. Transitioning from the outer to the inner part of the tire presented several challenges, but I managed to finish successfully."
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I had difficulty keeping up with the guys ahead. We'll continue to push forward."
“Pleased to finish in the top ten, but Rins edged past me on the final lap's back straight. I tried to be as accurate as possible, but I didn't accelerate well, and he managed to overtake me.”
“We’ll return to Misano.”
KTM will have a total of five riders this weekend, as test rider Pol Espargaro will be participating as a wild-card entry.
"Now head to Misano, also keeping in mind the upcoming test and Pol’s wildcard, which will provide us with some assistance for the future," stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP race will commence with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, placing Acosta in fifth position in the world championship standings.
Miller, who might be officially announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, is currently in 15th place and just three points behind Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo.
