Binder Battles Burnouts and Miller Gets Nipped: Highs and Lows at Aragon MotoGP
Brad Binder: "I did a rolling burnout once more!", Jack Miller: "Rins got past me."
Brad Binder: "I devised an excellent strategy last night to avoid spinning my tires at the start…"
Brad Binder had his best MotoGP weekend since the season opener in Qatar, finishing in 4th and 6th place at Aragon.
This occurred even though he veered off course in both races, and his seventh-place finish was on the less cluttered side of a messy starting grid.
Binder trailed rookie Pedro Acosta during the middle portions of the race. This duel turned into a contest for third place after Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained slightly beyond their grasp.
"I came up with an excellent strategy last night to avoid losing traction at the start, and I executed a rolling burnout just like I did the day before!" Binder said with a smile.
"I was able to navigate through and overtake several competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors since the front tire was overheating while trailing others until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to compensate for lost time by accelerating quickly out of corners since I couldn't enter them too fast due to the front tire overheating. However, this strategy backfired as the left side of the tire wore out completely by the end."
"I gave it my all to overtake Pedro, but there was no room left behind!"
"Aside from that, we took several promising steps forward during the weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Jack Miller, a team-mate, had a strong start, advancing from 15th on the grid to 8th place by the end of the first lap. However, the Australian rider quickly faced issues with rear traction.
Following a last-lap overtake by Alex Rins that pushed him down to tenth place, he and two other riders were penalized with a 16-second post-race time penalty for tyre pressure violations, ultimately relegating him to 15th position.
“It was a lengthy race,” Miller remarked. “The track conditions varied once more; it has been dirty for the majority of the weekend, but today it felt even more slippery.”
"I gave it my all. It was tough to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I experienced a major highside incident as I was exiting the final turn."
“I found my groove and focused on maintaining it. Transitioning from the tire's edge to the center posed several challenges… however, I managed to finish successfully."
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I had a hard time keeping up with the guys ahead of me. We'll continue working hard."
"I’m pleased to finish in the top ten, although Rins passed me on the final lap's back straight. I gave it my all to be accurate, but I lost momentum, allowing him to overtake me."
"We'll return to Misano in the future."
KTM will have a total of five riders this weekend, as test rider Pol Espargaro joins as a wild-card entry.
"Now head to Misano, keeping in mind the subsequent test and Pol's wildcard, which should provide us with some assistance for the future," stated Francesco Guidotti, the team manager.
The initial race of the Misano MotoGP series will commence with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, while Acosta is currently in fifth place in the world championship standings.
Miller, who may be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider during the team's local Italian events, is currently in 15th place, trailing Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo by three points.
