Bastianini’s Triumph and Puzzle: A Weekend of Wins and Wonders Over Ducati’s Decision
Enea Bastianini expressed confusion over Ducati letting go of both Jorge Martin and himself, questioning the team's decision.
Enea Bastianini has propelled himself into the race for the MotoGP championship, following his win at Silverstone.
In the Saturday sprint race, Bastianini was remarkable, surpassing Jorge Martin to claim the win.
"Bastianini expressed his delight over the weekend's outcomes immediately following the race, stating, "I'm incredibly pleased with the results from this weekend."
Throughout the summer vacation, I've spent considerable time reflecting on opportunities where I could have contributed further.
I monitored my speed, and throughout the competitions, it consistently qualified me for a spot on the podium in each event.
"Each attempt, beginning from a disadvantaged position, I often failed to capitalize on the time attack opportunities. This weekend, however, my strategy for the time attack was effective."
"Yesterday marked my initial triumph in the preliminary sprint, and today, in the actual competition. I'm extremely delighted to have secured the win in the 75th Anniversary Grand Prix."
Despite securing two victories, Bastianini does not view himself as a contender for the championship, even though he closed the gap to within 50 points of the series leader.
Bastianini further stated, "At this point, I don’t consider myself in the running for the championship. Both Pecco and Jorge have shown a level of steadiness in every race that I haven’t matched, with both competitors consistently leading the pack."
At times, I've experienced a certain feeling but found myself lagging. To truly compete for the championship, I need to enhance my skills in that aspect.
"I aim to maintain this momentum throughout the remainder of the tournament. Should this chance still be available at the tournament's conclusion, we will evaluate it then."
In recent competitions, Bastianini, alongside Martin, has outperformed Marc Marquez.
Marquez secured his position as Francesco Bagnaia's partner for the upcoming season. Despite Bastianini and Martin having access to the GP24, which Marquez lacks, the Italian is puzzled about Ducati's decision to let go of two significant talents in favor of Marquez.
Inquired about who would be more adversely affected by their separation, Bastianini expressed uncertainty, stating, "It remains to be seen. The decision by Ducati puzzles me since they're letting go of two riders of our caliber, myself and Jorge."
"I have regard for this choice. Regarding KTM, my belief is that it will suit me well, although I haven't had the chance to ride it yet. Without experiencing it firsthand, it's impossible to articulate its advantages over the Ducati."
