Bagnaia’s Le Mans Misfortune: Forced to Retire as Ducati ‘Does Crazy Things’ in MotoGP Sprint

Published

on

Francesco Bagnaia had to withdraw from the Le Mans MotoGP sprint race because his Ducati motorcycle was behaving erratically.

Twice-successive MotoGP title holder Francesco Bagnaia narrowly avoided two crashes, subsequently veering off the track and into the gravel trap at turn seven.

Bagnaia, who was knocked out of the Jerez sprint due to a collision with Brad Binder, has now not completed three of the past six races, encompassing both sprints and grand prix events.

Bagnaia dropped positions quickly from his second-place start, finishing the first lap in 15th.

Following a further drop in rank during the second lap, Bagnaia had to bow out of the race by the third lap, making his way back to the pit lane.

In response to inquiries regarding the challenges he encountered, Bagnaia mentioned, "My team is currently examining all aspects and they aim to address all issues by tomorrow.

"I'm confident that despite the challenges in grasping the situation, we will make progress."

"Today, we had to make adjustments to the bike from its qualifying setup to a more cautious configuration, but it didn't perform as anticipated."

"I had to bow out because it started acting wildly. At turn six, I unexpectedly lost grip on the front while accelerating, which usually can't happen."

"I ended up locking the front at turn seven without any deliberate action. It caused a significant wheelie, which was odd. We plan to address it tomorrow."

Bagnaia revealed he had aspirations of finishing the race to collect data for Sunday, yet the issues with his GP24 proved to be overwhelming.

"Initially, my goal was definitely to complete the race," expressed the leading Ducati rider.

"I also intended to gather some details about the tire for tomorrow, but I was prevented from doing so. We'll aim to maintain our competitiveness as we did earlier today."

"We'll carry the good aspects into the next day. Achieving a top-three finish in today's sprint or securing one or two spots on the podium was within our reach."

"However, come tomorrow, we'll focus on the positives and our performance remains at a peak."
