Francesco Bagnaia explains his defeat in the French MotoGP: "They simply outpaced me"

Francesco Bagnaia admits he was unable to prevent Jorge Martin and Marc Marquez from passing him at Le Mans.

Francesco Bagnaia experienced a minor setback in his championship defense after failing to secure a win at the French MotoGP.

Bagnaia was in front for the majority of the competition until Jorge Martin overtook him on the 21st lap out of 27.

Jorge Martin conveys a statement to Ducati: "I was the top performer this weekend."

In the previous lap, Bagnaia showcased exceptional defensive skills by intentionally letting Martin take the lead into the second turn, anticipating that the Pramac competitor would overshoot it, which then allowed him to execute a perfect cutback maneuver.

However, on his second try at the same turn, Martin avoided any mistakes, marking the final lead change.

Bagnaia maintained proximity to Martin, but instead of advancing, he fell to third behind Marquez during the last lap.

"After the race, Bagnaia reflected, "I aimed to give it my all, yet we should view the weekend from a positive perspective."

Friday unfolded flawlessly until a minor hiccup in the sprint prevented us from completing the race.

"Today, the pair simply outpaced me. Despite giving it my all, I found myself lacking that extra push in the final laps, a stark contrast to my experience in Jerez."

"However, we saw some progress on this circuit. Compared to last year when I had an accident, and the year before when the same happened, it was crucial for us to complete the race this time, which we managed to do swiftly."

"Pleased, yet a third-place finish isn't truly fulfilling for me. We'll head to Barcelona next and aim to enhance our performance."

After Martin surpassed Bagnaia, it seemed like the leading racer was set to distance himself.

Bagnaia demonstrated remarkable speed in the first two sectors, enabling him to maintain proximity despite conceding that he lacked the overall speed required.

"The current world champion mentioned, "I had a significant advantage in the first and second sectors, especially the second one."

"I felt confident at turn seven, but I started to lose ground during the braking into turn nine. I noticed Jorge managed to pull away behind me."

"I found it quite odd; I didn't feel compelled to brake sharply or accelerate through that turn, but we'll figure out the reason."

"Additionally, Marc [Marquez] managed to pass me at that moment. I believed I was applying significant pressure on the brakes, yet I found myself unable to halt the motorcycle and engage the front brake effectively."

"Then he went by me. I believe it was simply because they had more speed."
