Bagnaia Picks Bastianini Over Marquez as Preferred Ducati Teammate for 2025 Amid Intense Speculation
Pecco Bagnaia Overlooks Marc Marquez as He Reveals His Desired 2025 Team Partner
Francesco Bagnaia Discusses Ducati's Upcoming Choice
For the first time, Francesco Bagnaia has disclosed his top choice for a teammate in 2025.
Bagnaia, the current MotoGP champion and Ducati's leading figure, secured a lucrative new deal that commits him to the Italian brand.
However, his present colleague Enea Bastianini is competing against Pramac's Jorge Martin and Gresini's Marc Marquez for the designated motorcycle for the upcoming season.
At the Catalunya MotoGP this weekend, Canal+ inquired Bagnaia, "Between Jorge, Marc, or possibly Enea, do you lean towards anyone in particular?"
He replied, "Enea. I prefer Enea."
"I believe we're working well as a team. Let's keep up the good work. However, time will tell."
This marks the second year that Bagnaia and Bastianini have been teammates in the same garage.
Towards the end of 2022, Bastianini, riding for Gresini Ducati, engaged in a close battle with the leading rider of his team, Bagnaia, who was in contention for the brand's first title in 15 years.
Despite not topping the race win chart in 2022, Bastianini's impressive tally, second only to Bagnaia, secured him an upgrade to the prestigious red colors.
Bastianini's debut season as a team's lead rider was marred by an early injury, and despite occasional displays of talent, he is now overshadowed by Martin's stellar performance and Marquez's significant reputation.
Bagnaia's preference for Bastianini to stay as his teammate may be seen by his detractors as a way to avoid the more difficult competition from Martin or Marquez.
Bagnaia ultimately clinched the title while sharing the team with Bastianini and is now considered the leading competitor for Ducati.
Ducati confirms that a choice regarding Bastianini, Martin, or Marquez will be finalized by the upcoming Mugello weekend.
