Audi’s Backup Plan: Four Drivers Shortlisted as Alternative to Carlos Sainz for 2025 F1 Season
Audi prepares a list of four potential drivers as a backup plan should Carlos Sainz decline
Audi evaluates alternative choices in case their recruitment of Carlos Sainz falls through
Reports indicate that Audi has prepared a list of four potential candidates should they fail to attract Carlos Sainz.
Sainz's continued role at Ferrari is a crucial element in shaping the Formula 1 driver roster for 2025.
He's on the market, as Lewis Hamilton is set to take over his spot in red, though he hasn't made up his mind about his next move.
The position at Red Bull appears to be no longer available, Mercedes has yet to make a decision on their open spot, and Sainz has not confirmed accepting an offer from Audi, despite their reported ongoing interest.
The Formula 1 squad currently operating under the Sauber name, set to transition to Audi in 2026, has announced the acquisition of Nico Hulkenberg from Haas for the upcoming season.
Within the Formula 1 community, there's a prevalent rumor that Sainz has received an opportunity to partner with Hulkenberg at Sauber next season, just before Audi makes its grand entry the following year.
Yet, while he postpones making a choice, Audi has contemplated their alternative strategy.
According to Blick, Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon from Alpine, along with Red Bull's Yuki Tsunoda and Aston Martin's backup driver Felipe Drugovich, are the racers currently being evaluated.
Ocon and Gasly's agreements with the struggling Alpine team are set to end this season, maai-allcreator.com">king them available.
Tsunoda is highly regarded among the Red Bull team members and has been performing better than his teammate Daniel Ricciardo this season.
His breakthrough this season has garnered attention from Audi.
Drugovich clinched the Formula 2 championship in 2022, yet this victory didn't secure him a permanent position as a Formula 1 racer.
Currently serving as a backup driver for Aston Martin, he would probably seize any opportunity to compete.
For now, the decision still rests with Sainz.
