An IT firm in Armenia has been accused of illegally accessing electrical energy and utilizing it to mine cryptocurrencies.

$150,000 in energy

On Sept. 21, in an announcement from the Armenian Nationwide Safety Service, the group accused an IT firm of illegally mining cryptocurrencies from inside a hydropower plant.

The state company reported that the IT firm had put in cryptocurrency mining tools inside one of many hydropower crops working in Armenia and because of this illegally consumed 1.5 kilowatt-hours of electrical energy — value greater than $150,000, domestically — over the course of 1.5 years.
