Aprilia’s Search for Espargaro’s Successor: A Trio of Ducati Riders on the 2025 Shortlist
Aprilia is considering three MotoGP riders as potential replacements for Aleix Espargaro should he decide to retire, eyeing their options for the 2025 season.
Three candidates are under consideration by Aprilia to potentially fill Aleix Espargaro's spot for the upcoming season.
The leader of the Italian manufacturing team has toyed with the notion of retiring, a thought he's entertained before, and plans to reach a definitive conclusion shortly.
Aprilia is actively working behind the scenes, aware that they could soon have an open spot on a highly sought-after motorcycle, which has emerged as a significant challenge to Ducati this season.
Sky reports that Aprilia has narrowed its choices down to three candidates.
Enea Bastianini
Jorge Martin
Marco Bezzecchi
The group of three Ducati racers has attracted scrutiny from Aprilia.
The manufacturer's bid to attract Fabio Quartararo with a contract offer was unsuccessful, as he chose to ink a new agreement with Yamaha, making him the top-earning rider in MotoGP.
Aprilia is expected to have the financial capability to bring on board Bastianini, Martin, or Bezzecchi.
They'll be compelled to hold off until the factory Ducati team finalizes their selections for the 2025 MotoGP roster of riders.
Bastianini currently holds the coveted red motorcycle, with Pramac's Martin and Gresini's Marc Marquez also vying for it.
Aprilia has openly expressed their desire to have an Italian rider on their team in previous statements, maai-allcreator.com">king Bastianini a suitable choice should Ducati's main team decide not to retain him.
Conversely, Martin could prefer to stay with the manufacturing equipment if he is once more passed over for the 2025 Ducati position.
Bezzecchi from VR46 presents an interesting choice. This season in MotoGP, he hasn't captured the same level of attention as he did in his standout season last year.
However, following Luca Marini's departure from VR46 for a factory position at Honda, Bezzecchi might also make a move, especially to Aprilia, if presented with the opportunity. This is especially likely if Bezzecchi has to continue using an outdated Desmosedici at VR46 in 2025.
Everything hinges on what Espargaro chooses to do.
Last year, he spoke about retiring but chose to continue competing. Currently at 34, he stands as the most senior competitor in the lineup.
Espargaro has promised to make his final decision by the start of Mugello, which kicks off on May 31.
Last weekend in Le Mans, he secured a fifth-place finish, underscoring the talent he continues to hold.
