Alonso Accuses F1 Stewards of Favoritism Towards Hamilton After Miami Sprint Clash

Published

on

Fernando Alonso expresses disappointment over the lack of penalties for Lewis Hamilton, suggesting a bias due to nationality following their first-lap clash in Miami.

Fernando Alonso is of the opinion that Lewis Hamilton avoided a penalty for their first-lap collision in the Miami sprint race due to the fact that he is not Spanish.

Hamilton made a bold move on the inside of Alonso, pushing the Spanish driver into his teammate, which subsequently caused a collision with Lando Norris.

Lance Stroll and Norris exited the race early, whereas Alonso experienced a tire puncture that caused him to fall back in the standings.

Heading into this weekend, the double world champion was already aggravated with the F1 officials due to receiving a 10-second time penalty during the sprint race at the Chinese Grand Prix.

Alonso was found to have forced Sainz off the course in Shanghai, resulting in three penalty points being added to his record.

In a conversation with DAZN following the sprint race in Miami, Alonso commented, "Let's wait and see what their decision is. I'm assuming they'll opt not to make any decision, given that he isn't Spanish.

"However, it seems he spoiled the competition for several participants, particularly Norris, who possessed a high-speed vehicle and was eliminated in that event."

Alonso disclosed that he avoided attempting to pass Esteban Ocon to prevent the possibility of facing another penalty.

"Though I wasn't penalized today, it seems I'm always facing penalties," he continued.

"Today was no different. I found myself trailing Ocon, and while there was a possibility of overtaking him by taking a risk, I chose not to in order to steer clear of any penalties."

"I made an attempt to finish the race, consisting of 19 laps, and then return to my team to discuss the adjustments."

Alonso expressed his dissatisfaction by referring to the sprint race as merely "a free practice" session ahead of the grand prix qualifying.

"He clarified that they were not focused on the sprint race. Their goal was simply to assess wear and other factors for the following day, and ultimately, they achieved it. For them, it's essentially a practice session, not an actual race."

"Now, we're entering the crucial phase of the competition, beginning with the qualifying rounds and followed by the 57-lap race tomorrow. It's time to analyze the outcomes from today's sprint and assess the parc ferme conditions to identify any possible enhancements to the vehicle."
