Alex Rins Shaves 0.7s Off with 2025 Yamaha Engine at Misano MotoGP Test; Quartararo Also Impresses
Misano MotoGP Test: Alex Rins Gains 0.7 Seconds with 2025 Yamaha Engine – Competed at Aragon
Alex Rins has successfully approved a prototype engine for the 2025 season – discovered an impressive improvement of 0.5-0.7 seconds when he tested it again at the Misano Test.
Earlier private testing sessions, made possible by concessions, ensured that Monster Yamaha did not accumulate a surplus of new components for the official MotoGP test in Misano on Monday.
A new engine was ready for Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins to test, along with additional laps on the chassis that had been introduced during the San Marino race weekend.
The most fascinating development was the 'new' engine, which team director Massimo Meregalli described as 'the foundation of the 2025 engine, the prototype.'
After that, there was another unexpected event.
A week ago at Aragon, the 2025 engine received approval for Alex Rins. He utilized this engine during the Spanish race weekend, achieving his best result of the season with a ninth-place finish on the slick track.
Rins reverted to using older engines for the San Marino Grand Prix. However, during Monday's test, he tried the 2025 engine once more and reported a significant improvement, shaving off 0.5-0.7 seconds from his race times. According to a Yamaha press release, 'Rins was eager to test the prototype 2025 engine again, which he had previously used at the Aragon Grand Prix.'
Rins stated, “We began utilizing the engine we tested at MotorLand Aragon.”
"I opted not to use it during the Misano GP weekend due to engine failures I experienced in Qatar and Austria, requiring us to carefully monitor the usage of the remaining engines."
"To be truthful, by just using this upgraded engine, I managed to enhance my speed by 0.5 to 0.7 seconds. It was incredible!"
“We were experimenting with various aspects of the chassis, and those tests produced positive results.
"I noticed a significant improvement in traction with one of the changes we implemented."
Rins secured the 16th fastest lap time, trailing test leader Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) by 1.332 seconds.
Following Yamaha's top performance this season with a seventh-place finish on Sunday, Quartararo continued to excel by securing the fifth-fastest time on Monday.
The French driver, who has been using the same engine allocation since the Silverstone race, also tested the '2025 prototype' and conducted additional work on the new chassis.
Quartararo confirmed that they had the chassis to attempt again. They also experimented with a few setups that were previously untried, tested a prototype for a new 2025 engine, and worked on some electronics.
“It went pretty well. I believe we’ve discovered a solid direction to move forward with this new chassis. With any luck, we can improve the grip and the engine before the season concludes, allowing us to consistently compete for higher positions.”
Meregalli stated, "We will thoroughly examine the information. Some of the insights will be beneficial for the upcoming race weekend, while other data will play a key role in the development of the 2025 bike."
