Alex Marquez Wishes for a Ducati Development Pause to Tighten MotoGP Competition in 2025
Alex Marquez Jokes About Dall’Igna Taking a Break
"…Hoping they won’t make significant advancements so we can narrow the gap next year and achieve a balance similar to last year's with the '22 model."
Knowing he'll be riding last year's Desmosedici model for Gresini in 2025, Alex Marquez humorously suggested that Ducati Corse's general manager, Gigi Dall'Igna, should consider taking a vacation until the season concludes.
This is due to the fact that while the GP22 models provided to Gresini and VR46 were capable of securing victories last season, this year sees a significantly wider disparity between the satellite GP23 models and the factory-spec GP24 models.
Marc, Alex's sibling, currently leads the GP23 category in the global championship, trailing behind GP24 competitors Jorge Martin, Francesco Bagnaia, and Enea Bastianini.
Despite the fact that the eight-time world champion has not secured a victory yet, Marco Bezzecchi, with three wins, and Fabio di Giannantonio, with one, achieved success riding the GP22 in the previous season. Additionally, Alex celebrated winning two Sprint races during the same period.
It's reported that the GP23s satellites are modeled after the factory machines from early 2023. This indicates they are of an earlier version when contrasted with the GP22s satellites, which were derived from the final models of the last season.
"Alex Marquez remarked following Sunday's Silverstone race that this is the initial year witnessing such a significant transition from the previous Ducati model to the current one."
"We're optimistic that Dall’Igna might consider taking a break until the season concludes!"
"And that they don't make significant advancements so we can narrow the gap next year and achieve greater parity – similar to last year with the '22 bike, when Bezzecchi managed to secure victories in [three] races."
VR46 competitor Bezzecchi, making a move to Aprilia the following year, presently holds the 11th position, trailing Alex Marquez by one position and 31 points in the rankings.
After securing a seventh-place position at the British MotoGP, Marquez shared his experiences, particularly highlighting the initial phases where he engaged in close competition with the GP23 riders, including his sibling Marc and notably di Giannantonio. Di Giannantonio even went as far as to pat the back of his seat as a gesture for Alex to join him.
"About 4-5 laps in, I encountered a minor problem with the front brake diminishing slightly, causing me to fall behind Marc and the leading pack," Alex described.
"Additionally, that's why [di Giannantonio] passed me… I missed seeing him [signal with his hand], and I attempted to pass him back!
"Frankly, we performed well in the race as a team, but during the final laps, he managed to outpace me, particularly due to his [medium] front tyre, while I struggled with speed in the quick turns.
"I believe using the hard front gave us an advantage, but we required an additional 3 degrees in both track and ambient temperature to effectively utilize it."
"However, I believe we returned from the break performing strongly."
Alex will team up with newcomer Fermin Aldeguer at Gresini for the upcoming season, as Marc transitions to the Ducati factory team.
