Alex Marquez Predicted Honda’s Downfall: Inside the MotoGP Star’s Insightful Forewarning
Alex Marquez disclosed he was "never content" with the difficulties at Honda, but he anticipated the challenges they are facing now.
Alex Marquez has highlighted that some individuals within the team had already identified the challenges faced by Honda beforehand.
Marquez has embarked on his second year with the Gresini Ducati squad, a group that has rejuvenated his love for racing and bolstered his status in the MotoGP community as a skilled competitor.
He departed from Honda one year prior to his respected sibling Marc, who has now reunited with him at Gresini, quickly resuming their pursuit of victories and podium finishes.
This year, with neither of the Marquez brothers in its lineup, Honda has experienced a more disappointing performance compared to last season.
"Occasionally, we succeeded in making an appearance," Alex Marquez confided to Relevo.
"Last year, instances occurred where the reaction was one of disbelief, thinking 'incredible…they're not good'."
"However, I believe the circumstances have deteriorated further this year."
"In my opinion, the competition hasn't really stepped up their game; if anything, they've experienced a slight decline."
"The path Honda has chosen for the motorcycle seems to have deteriorated, and perhaps they need to reconsider or figure out a different strategy."
"Regardless of my departure or the actions that took place during my presence, I assure you, it brings me no joy to see such events unfold."
"Especially coming from a manufacturer such as Honda, where I've secured a world championship in Moto3, and they were the ones who offered me the chance in MotoGP."
"I can never find joy in circumstances such as these."
"In recent times, it became apparent what the outcome would be, influenced by internal dynamics and their structure."
Alex stepped into the top category as the Moto2 titleholder with Honda, a brand closely associated with the Marquez legacy.
Throughout 2020, he was part of the Repsol Honda team together with his brother, until Marc was sidelined due to an injury.
Subsequently, the next two years at LCR unfolded with the shortcomings of the Japanese manufacturer's motorcycle becoming increasingly evident.
In the previous year, Joan Mir openly contemplated retirement due to the challenges faced in preventing crashes.
This season, stepping in for Marc Marquez at Repsol, Luca Marini stands as the sole MotoGP rider who has yet to secure any points after participating in five rounds.
