Alex Marquez Denies Intentional Collision with Bagnaia: ‘It’s Not in My DNA or the DNA of This Sport
Alex Marquez's Reaction: "I would never intentionally cause a collision with another rider"
Alex Marquez denies all accusations that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating, "It's not in my nature and it's not a part of this sport's ethos."
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across certain comments following Sunday's Aragon MotoGP incident involving Francesco Bagnaia.
The duo experienced a serious crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini racer for the third spot, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that 'no further action' was necessary because 'neither rider was found to be chiefly at fault'.
However, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks implying that the Gresini rider maintained acceleration instead of steering clear of a collision.
In an interview with MotoGP.com, Bagnaia explained, "When I went into the next corner, which was turn 13, I could hear his engine revving up. He was accelerating, aiming to make contact."
"I wanted to examine that data… He kept the throttle open at 60 percent, 40 percent until the moment he crashed. This behavior seems very unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
Marquez shared a post on social media on Monday:
"Having reviewed several statements, I would like to clarify the following points:"
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I refuse to accept any accusations of doing so. Such actions are against my principles and the very essence of this sport."
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday is what matters most to me, and from my perspective, the matter is now resolved."
"Now I need to take a break and let my body heal so I can be fully prepared for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without major injuries and are set to return to racing at Misano this weekend.
Marc Marquez, who is Alex's teammate and brother, clinched victory in the Aragon race. Jorge Martin secured second place, extending his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
