Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Crash in Aragon MotoGP Incident with Francesco Bagnaia
Alex Marquez denies allegations: “I would never intentionally collide with another rider”
Alex Marquez dismisses any claims that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating, 'It goes against my principles and the principles of this sport.'
In reaction to "some statements" he came across following Sunday's Aragon MotoGP incident with Francesco Bagnaia, Alex Marquez has issued a response.
The duo experienced a severe crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini competitor for the third spot, following Marquez's wide maneuver.
The FIM Stewards concluded that no additional measures were necessary because they found that neither rider was mainly at fault.
However, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks, which imply that the Gresini rider chose to maintain his speed instead of steering clear of a collision.
"Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com that he heard the other rider accelerating as soon as he entered the next corner, suggesting that the rider was aiming to make contact."
"I wanted to examine the data… He kept the throttle open at 60 percent, 40 percent right up until the crash happened. This behavior seems very unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Having reviewed the statements, I feel it is necessary to clarify the following points:
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I refuse to be accused of such an act. It goes against my principles and the very essence of this sport."
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday is what matters most to me, and from my perspective, the matter is resolved."
"Now it's time for me to relax and rejuvenate so I can be in top shape for Misano."
Both Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without severe injuries and are set to race again at Misano this weekend.
In the Aragon race, Marc Marquez, who is Alex's brother and teammate, claimed victory. However, Jorge Martin's second-place finish has allowed him to extend his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
