Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Crash Claims: ‘It Is Not in My DNA Nor This Sport’s
Alex Marquez has addressed the situation, stating, "I would never intentionally collide with another rider." He dismissed any claims that he purposely made contact with Francesco Bagnaia, emphasizing that such actions are not part of his nature or the essence of the sport.
In response to reviewing certain comments following Sunday's Aragon MotoGP incident involving Francesco Bagnaia, Alex Marquez has issued a statement.
The duo experienced a severe crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini rider for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that no additional measures were necessary because they found that neither rider was mainly at fault.
Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks, which imply that the Gresini rider maintained throttle pressure instead of steering clear of a collision.
Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com that right when he went into the next corner, he could hear the other rider accelerating, indicating that the other rider was aiming to initiate contact.
"I wanted to review the data… He kept the throttle between 40 and 60 percent open up until the crash. This behavior seems very unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Having reviewed various statements, I would like to clarify the following points:
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I absolutely refuse to be accused of doing so. It's against my principles and the very ethos of this sport."
"The key thing for me is the discussion I had with Pecco yesterday; as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"Now it's time to relax and rejuvenate so I can be at full strength for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape major harm and are set to race again at Misano this weekend.
Marc Marquez, who is Alex's brother and teammate, clinched the victory at the Aragon race. However, Jorge Martin's second-place finish has extended his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
