Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Crash Allegation After Aragon MotoGP Incident with Francesco Bagnaia
Alex Marquez addresses allegations: "I would never intentionally cause a collision with another rider."
Marquez dismisses claims that he purposefully collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating, "It's not in my nature, nor is it in the nature of this sport."
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across some comments following Sunday’s Aragon MotoGP incident involving Francesco Bagnaia.
The two riders were caught in a serious crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini competitor for third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that no additional measures were necessary because neither rider was found to be mainly at fault.
However, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks implying that the Gresini rider maintained acceleration instead of steering clear of a collision.
The moment I went into the next turn, I heard his engine revving up. He was accelerating, aiming to make contact," Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com.
"I was interested in reviewing that information… He kept the throttle at 60 percent open and then 40 percent open before he eventually crashed. This behavior seems quite unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Having reviewed several statements, I would like to clarify the following points:
"I would never intentionally collide with another racer, and I refuse to be accused of such behavior. It goes against my principles and the fundamental values of this sport."
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday is what matters most to me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"Now it's time to relax and rejuvenate so I can be in top shape for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without major injuries and are set to return to the track at Misano this weekend.
In the Aragon race, Alex's brother and teammate, Marc Marquez, came out on top. However, Jorge Martin secured second place, extending his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
