Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Collision with Francesco Bagnaia: ‘It’s Not in My DNA
Alex Marquez answers back: "I would never intentionally collide with another rider."
Alex Marquez dismisses any claims that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating, "It's not in my nature, nor is it in the nature of this sport."
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across certain comments following the Aragon MotoGP incident with Francesco Bagnaia on Sunday.
The duo experienced a severe crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini motorcyclist for the third spot, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that 'no further action' was necessary because they found that 'neither rider was mainly at fault'.
However, Marquez appears dissatisfied with Bagnaia's remarks, which implied that the Gresini racer maintained acceleration instead of steering clear of a collision.
"As I went into turn 13, I could hear his engine revving up. He was accelerating. It was clear he was aiming for this collision," Bagnaia told MotoGP.com.
"I examined the data… The rider kept the throttle open between 40 and 60 percent until the moment of the crash. This behavior seems quite unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared on social media:
"Upon reviewing certain statements, I would like to clarify the following points:
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I refuse to be accused of doing so. Such behavior goes against my principles and the very essence of this sport."
"The conversation I had yesterday with Pecco is what matters most to me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"It's now the moment to take a break and let my body heal so I can be in top shape for Misano."
Both Marquez and Bagnaia managed to escape severe injuries and are set to return to racing at Misano this weekend.
Marc Marquez, who is Alex's brother and teammate, secured victory in the Aragon race. Jorge Martin finished in second place, which extends his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
