Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Collision with Francesco Bagnaia: ‘It’s Not in My DNA or the Sport’s
Alex Marquez rebuffs allegations: “I would never intentionally collide with another racer”
Alex Marquez dismisses claims that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, asserting: 'Such actions are not in my nature nor in the ethos of this sport'
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across some comments following Sunday’s Aragon MotoGP incident involving Francesco Bagnaia.
The duo found themselves in a serious crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini racer for a third-place position, following Marquez's wide run.
The FIM Stewards concluded that no additional measures were necessary because they found that neither rider was mainly at fault.
However, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks, which imply that the Gresini rider did not try to steer clear of contact and instead kept accelerating.
Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com, "When I went into the next corner, I could hear his engine revving up. He was accelerating, clearly aiming to make contact."
“I wanted to examine the data… He kept the throttle open at 60 percent and 40 percent up to the point of the crash. This behavior seems very unusual for a rider, in my opinion.”
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Upon reviewing several statements, I would like to clarify the following:"
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I refuse to be accused of such an act. It's against my nature and the essence of this sport."
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday was crucial for me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"Now it's time to relax and rejuvenate so I can be in top shape for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without major injuries and are set to race again at Misano this weekend.
Marc Marquez, Alex's brother and teammate, secured victory in the Aragon race. However, Jorge Martin's second-place finish has extended his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
