Alex Lynn Clinches Debut Pole in Historic New York Formula E Race
Alex Lynn secures his first-ever pole position in Formula E during New York event
In an impressive start to his Formula E career, Alex Lynn will lead the pack for DS Virgin Racing, having clinched the top spot in Saturday's qualifying round in New York City.
Lynn is set to spearhead the lineup at today's inaugural FIA motorsport competition in New York, having outpaced Daniel Abt to secure the top position in the Super Pole face-off at the Red Hook street circuit.
Lynn clocked the quickest lap at 1:03.296, edging out Abt by two-tenths of a second and securing the series' second-ever debut pole, a feat last achieved by Jean-Eric Vergne in Punta del Este three years prior.
The qualifying round was a lost chance for title hopeful Lucas di Grassi, who ended up in 10th place. He aimed to take advantage of Sebastien Buemi's absence and reduce the 32-point lead in the championship standings.
Sam Bird secured the fourth position for DS Virgin, surpassing Dragon's Jerome d'Ambrosio who came in fifth, followed by Nick Heidfeld in sixth place representing Mahindra. NextEV NIO's racers, Nelson Piquet Jr. and Oliver Turvey, finished in seventh and eighth places respectively. Nicolas Prost managed to claim the ninth spot for Renault e.dams. Meanwhile, filling in for Buemi, Red Bull Formula 1's junior driver Pierre Gasly ended up qualifying in the 19th position.
