Adrian Newey’s Next Chapter: Eddie Jordan Hints at a Possible Sabbatical Post-Red Bull Departure

What's the next step for Adrian Newey? His 'close friend and manager', Eddie Jordan, offers insights into the famed F1 car designer's future plans.

Ex-Formula 1 team leader Eddie Jordan has implied that Adrian Newey might “step back and relax for a bit” after leaving Red Bull.

On Wednesday, Red Bull announced that the esteemed 65-year-old automotive designer will depart from the team in "early 2025", marking the end of nearly twenty years with the current world titleholders.

In Red Bull's announcement of his exit, Newey expressed gratitude to Jordan, whom he described as a "close friend and manager."

During the most recent episode of their Formula For Success podcast, David Coulthard inquired about Jordan's role in giving counsel to Newey.

"Regardless of his choice, we hope for the best for him. In this situation, I'm in agreement with you [Coulthard] in staying neutral, and I won't be sharing what my probable recommendation is, but as you're aware, we have frequent conversations," Jordan expressed.

"We frequently engage in cycling. Nearly every day, during the two to three months around Christmas, when it's summertime in Cape Town, I encounter him."

"We live right beside each other, which naturally means we're privy to some aspects of each other's lives. However, rest assured, my mouth is locked tight – I won't spill any secrets!"

Newey has been strongly associated with competitors of Red Bull, such as Ferrari, Mercedes, and Aston Martin, amidst rumors about his career prospects.

However, Jordan wouldn't be taken aback if Newey decided to take a break and concentrate on his other passions, like sailing.

"Truthfully, during our cycling sessions, there's never any professional meddling or pursuit of expertise," Jordan explained.

"This is merely casual chatter, akin to pausing for a cup of coffee."

Keep in mind that he has been part of Red Bull, facing continuous pressure. He began his tenure with the team ranking around seventh or eighth in the championship standings.

"I'm unsure of the exact number of races they've secured victories in with him and Christian [Horner, team principal] at the helm, but it's likely around 118 or so – that's an immense level of pressure.

"Thus, if he decides to pause and simply relax for a bit, people would get why. It seems more probable that he'll opt for this instead of jumping into a new job or career path immediately."

"I highly question whether Adrian has had a conversation with anyone on that matter.

"Circumstances have evolved a bit; he has aged somewhat. This is an outstanding team, with top-notch drivers and staff at his disposal. It makes sense if he's seeking some downtime."
