Adrian Newey’s Aston Martin Move: A Magnet for F1’s Elite Talent Like Max Verstappen, Says Martin Brundle
The inclusion of Adrian Newey is expected to draw in top-tier drivers, including the likes of Max Verstappen. "Top talents, the elite racers, will be eager to join the team," it's suggested.
Renowned Formula 1 commentator Martin Brundle is convinced that Adrian Newey's recruitment will naturally draw top talent like Max Verstappen to Aston Martin.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that Newey had been appointed as the new technical managing partner for Aston Martin, where he will lead their design team.
Newey is set to become a part of Aston Martin in March 2025, focusing on the upcoming technical rules that will be implemented the next year.
The driver roster for Aston Martin's F1 team is firmly established for the coming years, as Fernando Alonso has signed on to remain with the team until the conclusion of 2026.
Lance Stroll has the option to remain a driver for the team for an indefinite period, as per his desire and the wishes of his father, Lawrence Stroll, who owns the team.
It's no shock that with Newey coming on board, there's speculation about Verstappen possibly coming aboard down the line.
The possibility of Verstappen joining forces with Newey and Honda, set to supply engines to Aston Martin starting in 2026, could become a tangible reality should the Silverstone team evolve into a contender for race victories.
During an interview with Sky Sports News, when queried if Verstappen is the upcoming challenge for Stroll, Brundle shared his thoughts.
"Definitely, that's the case with someone of Newey's caliber," Brundle remarked. "You're bound to draw in the top talents, the leading drivers. They'll be eager to join that team.
"The value of F1 racers, top-tier soccer players, or individuals such as Adrian Newey can't be determined by a standard rate card. Your worth is determined by what someone is willing to spend on you. Lawrence Stroll didn't amass a billion-dollar fortune by being reckless with his finances."
"He is aware of his expenditures. This approach will also draw in additional skilled individuals, along with attention from sponsors and investors for the team."
Ultimately, it might turn out to be a great deal if the car achieves high speeds. After all, the final verdict comes down to the time recorded on the stopwatch.
"Everything else is simply background chatter."
Aston Martin currently holds the fifth position in the 2024 Formula 1 constructors' standings.
