Adrian Newey to Exit Red Bull Amid F1 Discontent: A Look into His Decision and Future Prospects

Adrian Newey has a distaste for the "Netflix era" and contemplated leaving Red Bull the previous year. "He's also troubled by the heavy emphasis on commerce," they added.

New insights into Adrian Newey's growing disenchantment with Red Bull Racing and the Formula 1 world have been revealed.

The lead engineering executive from F1's leading team has announced his departure following a remarkable 19-year tenure during which he crafted the championship-winning vehicles for Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.

Newey is set to officially leave Red Bull at the beginning of 2025, and it's rumored that he could immediately join a different Formula 1 team, giving him the opportunity to manage the development of the 2026 vehicle.

Craig Slater of Sky Sports has shared insights into Newey's departure, indicating that it's not a decision made on a whim.

It has come to my attention that last year, Newey was contemplating departing from Red Bull.

Christian Horner successfully convinced him to agree to a new deal with the team, which was finalized last May.

"However, he has grown more and more disenchanted with the ongoing power conflict taking place behind the scenes within the team."

Tensions exist between Salzburg, the location of Red Bull's primary sports office, and the Formula 1 team's headquarters in Milton Keynes.

"Furthermore, the broader conflict between the Thai majority stakeholders and the Austrian 49% minority stakeholders."

The clash for control has created a challenging workplace for Newey.

Furthermore, he doesn't appreciate the current Netflix-driven popularity of Formula 1 that has brought it extensively into the limelight.

"The emphasis on commerce also bothers him significantly."

The Netflix show, Drive To Survive, has significantly boosted F1's popularity, a win for its proprietors, Liberty Media, yet it hasn't managed to win over the iconic Newey.

Newey is most strongly associated with the Ferrari team.

"Slater stated with certainty that Newey has informed Red Bull he hasn't agreed to sign with a different Formula 1 squad."

He wouldn't find himself lacking in opportunities. There's known interest coming from both Ferrari and Aston Martin.

"Reliable informants within Aston Martin believed that, should Newey decide to leave, Ferrari presented a more attractive option."

In 2025, Ferrari is set to embrace Lewis Hamilton, and bringing on board the most celebrated Formula 1 car designer would represent a monumental triumph.

Nonetheless, the possibility of Newey completely leaving F1 remains open.

"Slater has communicated with several individuals close to Newey, who believe that it will only be a few weeks before he makes his decision," Slater shared.

"Considering retirement is a possibility. He has reached the age of 65."
