Adrian Newey Poised to Join Aston Martin: Official Confirmation Expected Next Week
Adrian Newey has agreed to join Aston Martin, with an official announcement expected next week.
Renowned Formula 1 designer Adrian Newey has reportedly agreed to become part of Aston Martin, with an official announcement anticipated early next week.
Sky Sports News’ Craig Slater has shared that the 65-year-old British car designer, considered by many as the best in Formula 1 history, has reached a personal agreement to become part of Aston Martin's initiative.
In May, it was announced that Newey would be leaving his position as the chief technical officer at Red Bull, leading to a scramble among teams to enlist his expertise once he is free in early 2025.
It is believed that Ferrari, McLaren, and Williams all showed interest in recruiting Newey, but it seems that Aston Martin has succeeded in securing his commitment. The agreement is anticipated to be revealed next Tuesday, just before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku.
"From what I gather, Adrian Newey has agreed to join the Formula 1 team located in Silverstone, known as Aston Martin," Slater mentioned.
"I anticipate receiving formal verification of his inclusion with the team at the beginning of next week. Specifically, let's consider Tuesday, as Aston Martin has scheduled a press conference for that day. It would be logical to introduce Adrian Newey then, ahead of the upcoming grand prix in Azerbaijan."
Newey is bound by specific contractual duties to his present employer, Red Bull, which restricts him from deciding on his future or signing with a different team before September 6.
“From what I know, he has reached an agreement on personal terms with Aston Martin for some time.”
According to Slater, a clandestine tour of Aston Martin's advanced Silverstone plant this past summer played a crucial role in persuading Newey to become part of Lawrence Stroll's bold initiative.
Slater mentioned that Newey's tour of the Silverstone factory, where he was introduced to the latest wind tunnel, simulator, and other cutting-edge equipment aimed at advancing the team in Formula 1, may have influenced his choice to join Aston Martin over other offers from Ferrari, McLaren, and Williams.
British Formula 1 fans might have cherished the sentimental idea of him teaming up with Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, potentially forming a dream team that could have aided Hamilton in securing his eighth world championship title.
"The main issue seems to be how fast he can turn Aston Martin into a team capable of competing for world championships once he joins, and whether Newey can increase his impressive tally of 25 world championships, potentially reaching 27 this year if Red Bull wins both titles again."
