Adrian Newey Dismisses Sebastian Vettel’s F1 Comeback Amidst Audi Speculations
Adrian Newey doubts that Sebastian Vettel will come back to Formula 1 next year, despite circulating rumors involving Audi.
Adrian Newey doesn't believe that Sebastian Vettel will return to Formula 1 after retiring.
Vettel ended his Formula 1 career at the conclusion of 2022 after experiencing three seasons without notable success.
There have been ongoing rumors about the German making a comeback, with strong connections to both Mercedes and Red Bull at various points.
Lately, there has been speculation that Vettel might be considered for a spot with Audi, as Sauber has yet to make a decision on who will team up with Nico Hulkenberg in 2025.
Audi's CEO, Mattia Binotto, recently discussed the rumors surrounding Vettel in an interview with Sky Germany.
Binotto commented, "Vettel? When you get to know him, you value his qualities as a person first, even before recognizing his skills as a driver."
During an interview on the High Performance podcast, Newey was questioned about the drivers he has collaborated with in the past.
While discussing Vettel, he mentioned, "Sebastian called me recently. He's currently driving through Norway in his motorhome."
Jake Humphrey, a podcast host, brought up the speculation surrounding a potential comeback to Formula 1.
Newey replied, "I don't think that's the case. He seems to be happy with where he is now. He's pursuing other interests. Good for him."
What has Vettel mentioned before?
In April, Vettel addressed the possibility of coming back to Formula 1 when rumors connected him with a potential position at Mercedes, partnering with George Russell.
In the end, Mercedes chose Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
In an interview with Sky Sports in April, Vettel mentioned that his decision to return to F1 racing would be influenced by the overall offer.
"I stepped away from Formula 1 with no intention of returning, but I also mentioned that you can never be certain. I believe that statement still holds true."
"Clearly, there are aspects I miss, particularly the competitive environment. However, there are also things I don't miss, and that remains the same."
