Adrian Newey discusses Ferrari's intrigue, along with negotiations with competing teams.
Adrian Newey has explained his decision to team up with Aston Martin instead of Ferrari.
On Tuesday morning, Newey was introduced as Aston Martin's latest managing technical partner.
Newey is set to lead Aston Martin's F1 technical division, steering the company's talented engineers and designers with his leadership expertise.
Aston Martin has pulled off a significant victory by securing the services of Formula 1's most esteemed car designer, especially considering that Ferrari, McLaren, and Williams were all keen on bringing Newey on board.
Upon the announcement of Newey leaving Red Bull right before the Miami Grand Prix, it was widely believed that Ferrari would be the leading candidate to secure Newey's services.
As time went on, Aston Martin began to gain an upper hand, and a visit to the team's headquarters played a crucial role in securing Newey's signature.
Following his presentation, inquiries were made to Newey regarding his discussions with Ferrari.
Newey expressed being quite honored by the numerous teams that reached out to him.
"I engaged in conversations with a few of those teams, not every single one, but ultimately, it emerged as an obvious and fitting decision."
Aston Martin has significantly funded upgrades at their Silverstone site, including the addition of a state-of-the-art wind tunnel.
In 2026, the squad will solely utilize Honda power units, providing them with the ideal foundation to excel under the upcoming technical rules.
Newey acknowledged that Lawrence Stroll's dedication and passion were key influences in his decision to join Aston Martin.
"After declaring my exit from the previous squad, I was honored to receive numerous proposals from other teams," he continued.
"Lawrence's zeal, dedication, and energy were charming and convincing."
