2025 Nissan Leaf Surpasses Versa as Most Affordable Model with Incentive-Driven Price Slash
The 2025 Nissan Leaf has become more affordable than the Versa, Nissan's traditional economy vehicle, due to special offers. According to CarsDirect, this makes the Leaf the most budget-friendly option across all Nissan models, regardless of how they're powered.
The entry-level Nissan Leaf S for the year 2025 is priced from $29,280, including delivery charges. However, until September 3, buyers can benefit from a $7,500 special cash offer from Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation (NMAC) when they finance the vehicle at special annual percentage rates, according to CarsDirect. Additionally, there's a $1,000 bonus cash offer available on the electric car.

Buyers can take advantage of discounts totaling $8,500, reducing the cost of a Leaf S to $20,780. This is a tad higher than the $19,490 starting price of the 2024 Nissan Versa S with its CVT, as the 2025 pricing is yet to be announced. Moreover, a less expensive version of the Versa S with manual transmission is available. However, considering the existing financing deals, the Leaf ultimately comes out as the more affordable option.
According to CarsDirect, Nissan is providing a 3.19% APR finance deal for a five-year loan on the Leaf, and an 8.37% APR for the Versa. CarsDirect's calculations suggest that over the duration of the loan, a Versa would have a total cost of $23,819 with monthly payments of $399, whereas the Leaf would come to a total of $22,509 with a monthly payment of $375.

This financing deal includes a $7,500 bonus, which compensates for the Leaf's ineligibility for the federal electric vehicle tax credit in 2025. The 2024 Leaf does receive a $3,750 tax credit, but it's limited to households that meet certain criteria, making the $7,500 financing bonus potentially more accessible to a wider range of buyers.
There are certain negatives associated with this offer. The basic Leaf S model has a limited EPA range of 149 miles, although there is a more expensive SV Plus variant that can cover 212 miles. The standard Leaf with a smaller battery hasn't seen significant upgrades for quite some time, and it remains the sole electric vehicle utilizing the CHAdeMO quick-charge protocol. However, for those looking to save money, this represents a situation where an electric vehicle is more affordable than a similar gas-powered automobile.
