2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Goes American-Made with Tesla Port and Off-Road XRT Trim: Bigger Batteries and More
The latest version of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, set for release in 2025, comes with several significant improvements such as enhanced battery capacity and the inclusion of a Tesla NACS charging port. Additionally, there's a new, tougher XRT model. This vehicle will also be the inaugural electric vehicle from Hyundai to be produced at the company's newly established production facility in Georgia, referred to as the "Metaplant."
The capacity of the battery packs has increased, with the Standard Range versions expanding from 58.0 kWh to 63.0 kWh and the Long Range versions from 77.4 kWh to 84.0 kWh. This is anticipated to result in extended EPA range for both models. This upgrade was previously indicated when the boisterous 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, equipped with an 84.0-kWh battery, was introduced earlier in the year.
Hyundai projects an increase of 20 miles in driving range for its single-motor SE Standard Range model, taking it up to 240 miles. For the single-motor SE, SEL, and Limited models equipped with the larger battery, the improvement is a modest rise from 303 to 310 miles. The dual-motor variants of these models are expected to offer a range of 250 to 280 miles, varying according to the precise model and the size of the wheels or tires. This is an enhancement from the earlier estimate of 260 miles.

For the year 2025, Hyundai is introducing a fresh XRT variant to its collection, which is the inaugural incorporation of this rugged-themed model into Hyundai's electric vehicle range. The Ioniq 5 XRT features an enhanced suspension raised by 0.9 inches, modified suspension settings, off-road capable tires fitted on 18-inch rims, and body cladding adorned with a digital camo design. This model is exclusively offered with a dual-motor setup and an expanded battery option, though Hyundai hasn't provided any details on the driving range as of the latest update.

Hyundai's Ioniq 5 is set to become the brand's inaugural electric vehicle to feature an integrated Tesla NACS charging connector. This move by Hyundai aims to provide direct connectivity to over 17,000 Tesla Supercharging points, eliminating the need for a separate adapter. However, Hyundai plans to offer an adapter for the earlier Combined Charging Standard (CCS) outlet. Beginning in the last quarter of the current year, all newly introduced or updated Hyundai electric models will be equipped solely with the NACS charging port.

Several 2025 Hyundai models, including the Ioniq 5, now come with the added convenience of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto included in every model. New safety enhancements include a system to prevent parking mishaps and technology to check if the driver is maintaining contact with the steering wheel. Additionally, improvements have been made to the lane-keeping assistance and the automated parking system that can be operated remotely.

The outer appearance of the vehicle has been updated with fresh designs for the front and back bumpers, an updated rear spoiler, and newly styled wheels that Hyundai states enhance the car's aerodynamics. The vehicle's structure has been fortified, particularly the main body frame, the doors at both the front and back, and sections of the B-pillars, to boost resistance against side collisions. Within the cabin, there's a revamped central console and updated temperature regulation systems, alongside a newly styled steering wheel.
Hyundai has verified that the Ioniq 5 will be the inaugural electric vehicle to roll out from its newly established plant in Georgia. This move ensures that the 2025 edition of the vehicle will be eligible for a federal tax incentive of $3,750. However, Hyundai plans to maintain a $7,500 rebate for those leasing the vehicle, taking advantage of a regulatory oversight. The company will announce specific pricing details as the launch date of the 2025 Ioniq 5 approaches.
